This set of two paintings explores the duality of day and night, using the same white circle to represent both the sun and the moon. The two paintings in this set mirror one another, and so do their inverted color schemes —one bathed in dazzling sunlight, the other softened by the mellow, moody glow of the moon. At the centre of both works, the human figure becomes a personification of Mother Nature, existing within this eternal cycle of light and darkness. The mirrored forms and shifting palettes suggest that day and night are not opposites, but two expressions of the same natural rhythm—each containing the other in an endless cycle of change, over and over.
